The province’s Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after an RCMP vehicle was struck while on route to a call.

The collision happened around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

SIRT says a male RCMP officer was responding to a call of a young peron in distress when he was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Cole Harbour Road and Forrest Hills Drive.

Once the RCMP cruiser was hit, it subsequently struck a third vehicle near the same intersection.

The RCMP officer was taken to hospital as a precaution. The female driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital with what’s believed to be a broken ankle. Her two passengers were not injured in the accident.

RCMP say they contacted SIRT within an hour of the accident, who are now investigating.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact SIRT at 902-424-2010.

SIRT is responsible for investigating all incidents in Nova Scotia which involve police, regardless of whether or not there is an allegation of wrongdoing.
