The Halifax Tool Library officially opened the doors to their new and larger space on Saturday morning.

The Tool Library is a place where people can access all the tools they need for a small, yearly fee.

“The goal here is to take all these tools, that are sitting unused in people’s basements and make them availible to all these people in Halifax who want to do awesome projects,” said Tristan Cleveland, Halifax Tool Library.

The Halifax Tool Library was one of Canada’s first five tool libraries in the country when it opened in the fall of 2014.

Since then, the idea has taken off and the group needed more space. The new location, at 6070 Almon Street in Halifax, has double the space of their previous location.

All 900 tools availible were donated by local residents or companies.

The group says they are always looking for new tool donations.

“We would love to have a table saw, we would love to have a taller ladder, we would love to have more circular saws, we have a lot but people are constantly getting them out, so that would be fantastic,” said Cleveland.

The tool library is completely staffed by volunteers and recently reached a milestone with their 300th member.
