After multiple delays in the past few weeks, the Big Lift project is back in action.

On Saturday, crews started work to replace the last deck segment on the Dartmouth side of the Macdonald Bridge.

This particular deck replacement took a little longer than the other previous deck segments because it was next to the bridge tower.

In recent weeks, the Big Lift project has been delayed a number of times because of sea swells and high winds. Officials confirm the project is behind schedule, but feel they can get back on track.

“It’s a very complex project. Essentially, we’re taking the bridge apart and putting it back together so it’s safe for vehicles,” said Alison MacDonald, Communications Manager, Halifax Harbour Bridges

“It’s very complicated so the learning curve has been steep. We believe that the learning curve is mostly behind us now and the bad weather is behind us. Once we get to the main span, we should definitely make up time,” said MacDonald.

Work to replace the next deck segment is scheduled for next weekend.
